What You Feel When Your Gums Begin To Recede

Gum recession is common when gum disease goes on untreated for a period of time.

As your gums recede, your mouth is going to go through some changes. Some of them you may notice by how your mouth looks, while other changes are going to come to light by how your mouth feels.

If you did not get your gum disease treated right away, or even if you have not gotten it treated yet, then you should call our office. Let us figure out the best treatment for your mouth based on the stage you are at right now.

Gum Recession Keeps Going

Once gum disease starts going, it takes treatment to get it stopped. Until you get treated, you are likely going to notice things like bleeding gums, swelling around your teeth, and increased tooth sensitivity.

The increased tooth sensitivity often accompanies gum recession. You may be able to notice that your gums are getting lower than they used to be when you look in the mirror. However, you can typically notice an increase in sensitivity without having to look in the mirror.

When your gums pull back, more of the root of the tooth is exposed. This means that when you consume cold, hot, sweet, or bitter items, your teeth may react. This can be a dull ache at first, but most people are well aware of the pain of sensitivity when they get hit with that spike in pain following a cold drink or a hot bite of food.

Gum recession will keep getting worse until you have all of the gum disease in your mouth eradicated. Do not hesitate to contact us today, and let us help figure out what the right treatment plan would be for your mouth. Then, you can help restore the health back to your mouth.
