class=”TParticle”>Have you ever heard that little voice in the back of your head telling you to spend some extra time outside? It could possibly be your mouth telling you it needs a little extra Vitamin D. Well, it may not be your mouth saying it exactly, but it could be your body’s way of telling you it needs a little boost.

Vitamin D is essential for a healthy mouth. If you do not get enough through foods or you do not go outside often, your body could be lacking, which could lead to issues with your oral health.

Why Does Your Mouth Need Vitamin D?

Part of what keeps your mouth healthy is calcium. That is what keeps your jaw bone and teeth strong, but it cannot do it alone. If you get plenty of calcium, your body may still not be able to absorb it properly. In order to give the calcium the best chances of keeping your mouth healthy, it needs Vitamin D to activate it. Without enough Vitamin D, you simply consume the calcium and it does you no good.

Your entire mouth needs you to make sure that you get plenty of Vitamin D. With it, you have stronger teeth and bone in your jaw. This gives you better gum health, and stronger periodontal ligaments. That way, if you do develop gum disease during your lifetime as most people do, you have a stronger base to work from.

This means it will usually take longer to develop to the point of being a problem, and it will be easier for us to treat if it is still in those earlier stages.
